Noughties; A Whole New World
100 years down the line and here we stand today. We’ve witnessed long skirts, short skirts, mad times and sad times, rock ‘n’ roll, death, the dole, big hair then straight hair, bright colours and minimalism, rebellion and conformity and Westwood and Topshop. Within the past 7 years we have re-visited rave, re-used old rags the vintage way and dabbled with each era’s iconic symbolism, so where now? Brick Lane, London, is rife with thrift goers rifling through the rails for bargain vintage finds and Portobello Market offers the latest underground and emerging designing talent where one off finds are everywhere. Dazed & Confused predicts the future is magic and dream like and Belgian Designer, Raf Simons, is also onto the case. We have already stomped our way through the indie-cindy period with our jeans so skinny it hurt to breath and Jonny Borrell and high-waists have now taken to the forefront of style and sophistication. Goths and emo’s have been reduced to the under 14s, so where now? You and I are the generation that will make this era so and to look back in 20 years time we will, hopefully, be able to repeat the word ‘noughties’ and connotations of the word will spring to mind just like the 9 decades before us.
