Paris Fashion Week; Galliano’s a Roaring Success

Rich colours, exotic headwear and a taste of the roaring twenties (design marvel Paul Poiret springing to mind) created the core of John Galliano’s own name Autumn/Winter 2008 Paris catwalk show. In true Galliano style the catwalk was alight with theatrical connotations, bold make-up and visual splendours including a dropped-waist fur coat, harem trousers (set to be one of next seasons biggest trends) and a show-stopping feathered black dress complete with matching headdress.

A hint of the orient also lingered with oriental characters as props and shimmering gold curtained back drop complementing the lightweight sheer fabric of a plum coloured dress, kimono-style sleeves on both a short fur coat and silk jacket and the rich orange colour of a wrap around.

Keeping in with the common theme across many of the ’08 shows, separates dominated the collection with dresses taking a backseat this season. The few dresses featured however reflected the new love for anything sheer and some even on the more risqué side. Fabulousness is what Galliano does best and fabulous is what his show was.
